BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team took their first Conference Carolinas victory of the season, defeating Southern Wesleyan University on Friday evening. The Tornado used a 25-0 run in the second quarter to open up a sizable advantage en route to the 93-41 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- King opened the game with three-point baskets from Ryleigh Fritz, Ali Golden and Trinity Lee to take a 9-0 lead as Southern Wesleyan took a timeout three minutes into the contest.
- The Warriors cut their deficit to 9-5 before King went on a 14-0 run to open up a 23-5 lead in the final minute of the quarter.
- Kiki Samsel and Fritz connected from long range on the run, and Lee capped the spurt with a layup.
- Lexi Campos gave King a 26-7 lead going to the second quarter when she connected from long range in the final 15 seconds.
Second Period
- Southern Wesleyan scored the first basket of the second quarter at the 9:33 mark, and did not make a field goal the rest of the period. The Warriors made two free throws with one second remaining for their other points of the stanza.
- As the Tornado defense slowed the Warrior offense, the King offense went on a 25-0 run over the final 9:32 of the quarter.
- Jhayda McKinney started the onslaught with a three-point basket and Brianna Dunbar followed with a jump shot.
- Fritz and Samsel both made three-point baskets on the run as Samsel's trifecta gave king a 51-9 lead in the final minute of the half.
- Southern Wesleyan made two free throws to make the halftime score 51-11 in favor of the Tornado.
Third Period
- A Dunbar basket in the paint started a 13-0 Tornado run over the final five minutes of the third quarter.
- Desiree Bates, Julie Ford and Caroline Harville all accounted for points on the run before Lee gave King a 74-23 lead going to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Period
- A Beth Clark three-point basket gave King their largest lead of the game at 84-31 with five minutes remaining.
- King then cruised to the 93-41 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Samsel led the Tornado with 15 points while Lee followed with 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals.
- Bates chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
- Brooke Henricks led Southern Wesleyan with 12 points while Sasha Schoenborn followed with 11 points.
- Amy Soumare added eight points and 11 rebounds.
