Tornado open conference play with victory over Emmanuel

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's soccer team starts off conference play with a win against Emmanuel College. Netting one goal per half the Tornado kept Emmanuel scoreless until the 83rd and went on to take the win 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The match remained scoreless for most of the first half until Faber Bickerstaffe connected with Luis Calderon from a short pass in front of the goal to give King the 1-0 advantage.
  • In the 68th minute Chris Hicks beat the Emmanuel defense to record an unassisted goal.
  • Both teams tallied 12 shots, while The Tornado put seven on goal and The Lions added five.
  • Kari Sveinsson recorded four saves, to earn his second win of the year.
  • Emmanuel was able to bring the game within one goal in the 83rd minute.

FOR THE FOES

  • Nick Miller recorded his first goal of the season in the 83rd minute when he picked up a rebound off a King defensive player and was able to find the back of the net.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Bickerstaffe's goal marks his first of the season.
  • Hicks has recorded six goals in his last three games.
