Preseason Poll Places Women’s Cross Country Fifth

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King women's cross country finds itself in the middle of the pack of this year's coaches' preseason poll after being placed fifth in the conference by its fellow members.

The Tornado were named second-best team in the southeast region last week after finishing the 2010 season 22nd in NCAA Division II following national competition. The team pulled down a runner-up finish at last year's regional championship for an automatic NCAA bid. As a squad, King also featured the top grade point average last year at a cumulative 3.77 mark.

Queens (N.C.), who was named No. 1 in the region, also pulled down the top spot in the Conference Carolinas poll with 11 of the 12 possible first place votes and 121 points overall. Mount Olive (91), Lees McRae (85), and Converse (83) lay ahead of King (80) in the poll ranking second through fourth. Barton (69), Belmont Abbey (68), Erskine (57), Limestone (49), Coker (45), North Greenville (26), and Pfeiffer (18) complete the remainder of the poll.

King is set to begin competition on Sept. 2 at the Covered Bridge Invitational at Boone, North Carolina.
