NEW ORLEANS, La. - King College remained at No. 6 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Week 1 NCAA Division II Cross Country Southeast regional women's rankings, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Lady Tornado was No. 6 in the preseason ranking released on Aug. 24. King has only competed once this season so far and that was a tenth-place run at the Covered Bridge Invitational in Boone, N.C., on Sept. 3, in a field filled with NCAA Division I foes.
The top three squads remained the same with Columbus State (Ga.) University, Queens (N.C.) University of Charlotte and Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University holding down the spots. Anderson (S.C.) University jumped from No. 5 to No. 4 while Augusta State (Ga.) University went to No. 5.
Behind King was Mount Olive (N.C.) College who was not in the Top-10 at No. 7. Lees-McRae (N.C.) College and Georgia College and State University were No. 8 and No. 9, respectively. Converse (S.C.) College rounded out the Top-10.
Conference Carolinas was represented by four teams, Queens, Mount Olive, Lees-McRae and Converse. The Peach Belt Conference went from five teams in the Top-10 to three, Columbus State, Augusta State and Georgia College and State University. The South Atlantic Conference might have only had two schools in the ranking, but both Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson were in the Top-5. King was the only independent team in the ranking from any region.
The next ranking will be released in a week.
King will be a part of the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic on Oct. 2 in Louisville, Ky.
