King sends four women's wrestlers, coach to Junior Worlds

BRSITOL, Tenn. – The King University women's wrestling team has a big presence at the 2013 FILA Junior World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. The U.S. squad is coached by Tornado head coach Jason Moorman, and half of the eight-person team is made up of King wrestlers. Current Tornado wrestlers, Sarah Hildebrandt, Lorrie Ramos and Julia Salata are joined by incoming freshman Haley Augello on the U.S. team that begins competition on Thursday.

The women's team that is coached by Moorman, Marcie Van Dusen and Erin Tomeo includes five members of last year's Junior World Championships, including three place winners. Three King wrestlers return from a season ago, Salata, Hildebrandt and Augello. Salata hails from Canton, Mich., and took home an eighth place finish at the 2012 Junior World Championships in the 67 kg weight class, and will compete at the 72 kg weight class in 2013.

Augello, a Lockport, Ill., native, was the ASICS High School Wrestler of the Year, and will compete at the 51 kg weight class. Hildebrandt was a member of the 2013 University World team, and the Granger, Ind., native returns to the Junior World Championships team at the 55 kg weight class.

Ramos is the final Tornado wrestler to make the squad, and the Orlando, Fla., native will compete at the 67 kg weight class in her first Junior World Championships.

The U.S. team is rounded out by Erin Golston (44 kg), Cody Pfau (48 kg), Jenna Burkert (59 kg) and Jennifer Page at 63 kg.

The competition includes the world's best 17-20 year old wrestlers. To be eligible for the FILA Juniors, athletes must be 17-20 years old and cannot turn 21 during the 2013 calendar year. The women's team is comprised of women who won the Body Bar Women's National Championships in Lakeland, Fla.

The 2013 FILA Junior World Championships started on Tuesday, and the women open competition on Thursday, August 15, and conclude on Friday, August 16 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The complete schedule of the women's event is below.
