PANAMA CITY, Panama, - King University women's wrestler's Sarah Hildebrandt and Julia Salata competed at the Senior Pan Am Women's Championships on Saturday, and both will be returning to Bristol with hardware. Hildebrandt won the gold medal at the 55-kilogram weight class while Salata earned a bronze medal in the 67-kilogram weight class.
Hildebrandt defeated Dominican Republic's Oviedo Perez 2-1, 5-0 in the finals to take home the gold medal. Salata is coming home with a bronze medal after defeating Elsa Sanchez of the Dominican Republic on a third-period pin.
Both wrestlers had competed at the junior world level before, but this marked their first senior world event. The duo helped the U.S. team score 40 points and finish in third place. Canada won the team championship with 59 points while Cuba finished second with 45 points.
