King was unanimously selected to host this year's tournament by their peers and the WCWA over multiple other applicants. "It is a huge honor for our team and this program to get the opportunity to host an event of this caliber," said Head Coach Jason Moorman. "To be able to wrestle at home in front of our own fans will be special and really give the crowd a chance to experience women's wrestling as an up-and-coming sport."
Even still in the program's infancy, Moorman has built up the program and gained international prominence, currently ranking second in the latest WCWA rankings. In their first season King finished 10th of 13 teams to participate in the tournament. The following year the Tornado jumped into serious contention for a title, finishing in fourth place as a team and housing a national champion while beginning a run of success that continues to grow.
We are delighted to be hosting the WCWA National Championships," said King Athletic Director David Hicks. "Coach [Jason] Moorman has quickly elevated our Women's Wrestling program into one of the top programs in the country, and the opportunity to host a national championship is a milestone for our program. We are looking forward to seeing the best women's wrestlers in the country compete for a national title."
Competition will begin on Saturday morning (Jan. 28) at 9:00 a.m. EST. Three mats will be running simultaneously throughout the day with all ten weight classes and 16 teams being represented. Brackets containing tentative rankings and matchups will be formulated and released Friday night after the coaches' meeting.
An all-day pass for the event will cost $10.00 (US). King students, staff and faculty can attend free of charge with a valid King ID. Programs commemorating the tournament will be sold at the event.
With the partnership of the America One (B2) Broadcasting Network, King will be providing multiple webcasts of the tournament and the preceding press conference. The press conference, set for Friday Jan. 27 at 3:00 p.m. EST, will feature the head coach and select wrestlers from the top five programs in the WCWA. Two webcasts will be running simultaneously, covering all three mats of the competition.
Statistics will also be published live to the web via TrackWrestling.com. Please search "2012 WCWA Womens College Nationals" and follow the on-screen instructions to access coverage.
An interactive blog will also be provided to allow viewers the opportunity to receive the most current updates and visuals on the actions on all three mats. Viewers may also engage our on-site blogger with questions and comments on the event or to support your favorite wrestler or team.

In 2011 King witnessed two standout athletes succeed at the collegiate and international level, crowning its first individual national champion after Marina Lambert won gold in the 90-kilogram/198-pound division. While Lambert is no longer with the team, Alli Ragan (Carbondale, Ill.) has been in the spotlight after finishing with a bronze medal in the World Junior Championships this past summer. Ragan and freshman Julia Salata (Canton, Mich.) have both qualified for the Olympic trials through previous successes in competition this season.
The WCWA National Tournament serves as a prime opportunity for affiliated schools to earn a championship with the college season concluding as well as to grant individuals an opportunity to qualify for the 2012 United States Olympic Team. The top two finishers in the 109, 123, 136, and 155-pound weight classes as well as the champions of the 101, 116, 130, 143, 170, 191-pound divisions will advance to the U.S. Olympic Team trials, set in April.
