Ragan and Martin Highlight at Missouri Valley Open

MARSHALL, Mo. – Alli Ragan and Stacy Martin upheld their No. 1 rankings in the nation, each winning their tournament bracket in their respective weight divisions at Missouri Valley Open on Saturday. King saw nine King wrestlers finish inside the top-7 of their respective weight classes in the open.
 

Ragan, a sophomore from Carbondale, Ill., served as the No. 1 seed of the 143-pound bracket and earned three wins by decision plus one fall in her tournament championship. In the championship round, Ragan defeated No. 2 seed Jennifer Page of Oklahoma City University by decision (2-1) to earn the crown.

Emily Martin (Frisco, Texas) was King's second bracket winner, taking the championship of the 109-pound division. After winning her first match by decision over UC's Alex Campbell, Martin win her next three matches by fall, all in the first period. She beat Kristi Garr (OCU) by fall in 1:20 for the 109-pound championship.

In the 116-pound division, two Tornado grapplers advanced to the quarterfinal round but did not advance past that point. Three members of the team were in position to compete for the top-7 finish. Kayla Bartosch (Triangle, Va.) was forced to match up against teammate Victoria Nguyen (Johnson City, Tenn.) for the seventh place match, where Bartosch survived for a win by decision (2-1). Samantha Klingel advanced to the semifinal round of the 116-pound class but finished fifth in the bracket.

Sarah Hildebrandt advances to semifinals of the 123-pound division and finished fourth in the tournament. Teammate Kayla Brendlinger finished fifth in the same weight class.

Lorri Ramos (155#) won her seventh place match by fall, 0:14 into the match against Ashlee Lentz (Waldorf). In the 191-pound division, Amber Floyd (Rialto, Ca.) finished fifth after defeating teammate Kerri Bumpers (Hampton, Va.). Along the way, Bumpers recorded her first fall of the season against Monica McMonigle (Jamestown-UN).

The Tornado will compete next on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the NYAC International Open held in New York, N.Y.
