Van Goethem, a native of Aurora, Colo., helped the Lady Tornado come from behind to defeat the Mount Olive Trojans after falling behind two sets in the first round of the tournament. She finished the first round game with 16 kills and 11 digs for her 12th double-double of the year. She also had a pair of service aces and block assists in the 3-2 win.
In the team's 3-0 loss to Lees-McRae, Van Goethem led the team with 11 kills in three games, hit .273 for the match and added four digs to her line. She combined for a tournament total of 27 kills on 60 attempts with 13 errors committed. Van Goethem tallied 15 digs and was responsible for 30.0 points for the Tornado, helping them to the College's first Conference Carolinas postseason win after becoming a full member this offseason.
Van Goethem ended the season with 317 kills overall (3.17/set), second-most on the team, and finished third on the team with 273 digs. She was named to the All-Conference Second Team following her successful junior season, as well as the Academic All-Conference Team.
The conference tournament concluded this past Sunday with the Bobcats emerging the victors. Lees McRae earned the No. 1 seed overall after going undefeated in conference play coming out of the West Division. They defeated Belmont Abbey (3-2), King and Queens (3-0) along the way to the winning the championship. Complete All-Tournament team is listed below.
