Machen leads charge, but Lady Tornado comes up short at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - King College was taken down 3-1 at Tusculum (Tenn.) College in women's volleyball action Friday.

Tusculum jumped out to a 25-16 game one score. King answered with a 25-22 second-set victory. Tusculum then won games three and four with scores of 25-15 and 25-21.

Morgan Machen (Kingsport, Tenn.) had a match-high 19 kills. The 19 kills ranks second for the senior this season, just one off her season high.

Shannon Earwood (Carson City, Nev.) was credited with 41 assists with seven digs.

Rachel Harding (Abingdon, Va.) added 18 digs with 13 from Amber Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.).

Sarah Van Goethem (Aurora, Colo.), Kaitlyn Musick (Weber City, Va.) and Ashley Pittman (Norris, Tenn.) each had seven kills.

King's record went to 18-4 and it was the Lady Tornado's first road loss of the season. King had won the first four true road games of 2010. Tusculum went to 16-3 on the season.

The Lady Tornado returns to action Tuesday when Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University comes to Bristol for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
