Lady Tornado Volleyball schedule finalized for 2010

BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College head women's volleyball coach Chris Toomey has announced the 35-match schedule for 2010.

The 2010 slate features nine home matches, 12 away and 14 on neutral courts. The season starts at the Limestone Labor Day Invitational in Gaffney, S.C. First on the schedule for King will be Converse (S.C.) College on Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. Three more contests will wrap up the opening weekend of action for the Lady Tornado.

On Sept. 8 King plays inside the Student Center for the first time when Montreat (N.C.) College visits for a 7 p.m. match. The following weekend has King traveling to the University of Charleston (W.Va.) Tournament.

A set of three home matches with UVa-Wise, Tusculum (Tenn.) College and Virginia Intermont College will occur Sept. 14, Sept. 21 and Sept. 23, respectively. The Lady Tornado travels to Milligan (Tenn.) College for a 6:30 p.m. match on Sept. 28 before the trip to the East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University Tournament the first weekend in October.

King welcomes Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University and Bluefield State (W.Va.) College on Oct. 5 and Oct. 7, respectively. The Lady Tornado then plays at Concord (W.Va.) University on Oct. 12. The same day King and Southern Virginia University will battle in Concord.

After a match at Tusculum, King returns home to play Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University on Oct. 19. King plays at Montreat on Oct. 21 before the USC-Aiken Tournament the next two days before trips to Bluefield State and Lincoln Memorial.

The Lady Tornado wraps up the home portion of the schedule on Nov. 2 with matches against Concord and Milligan.

King will host the 2010 NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament on Nov. 19-20 with the potential to make a return trip to the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. Dec. 2-4.

The final three regular-season matches of 2010 will be on the road at UVa-Wise and Virginia Intermont before a Nov. 9 match at Brevard (N.C.) College.

Of the 35 matches, 24 will be against NCAA Division II foes with 20 different opponents from six conferences. King will play Division II foes Concord, Lincoln Memorial, Tusculum and Bluefield State twice.

King has nine teams on the 2010 schedule that were also on the 2009 slate. The Lady Tornado posted an 11-3 record against those teams.

A trio of schools, Montreat, Virginia Intermont and Milligan, will represent the Appalachian Athletic Conference, King's former home, on the 2010 schedule. The Lady Tornado went 15-0 against eight teams from the AAC in 2009 during the regular season.

The Lady Tornado enters their first year as a full NCAA Division II member after a 29-12 season in 2009 which included a trip to the NCCAA National Tournament.
