BREVARD, N.C. - King College closed out the women's volleyball regular season with a 3-0 win at Brevard (N.C.) College Tuesday.
With the sweep, King improved to 27-8 while Brevard slipped to 3-26. The Lady Tornado of King improved to 17-2 in three-set matches this season.
The Lady Tornado started the match with a 25-20 game-one victory. King went to 30-5 in first sets this season. The Lady Tornado added a 25-16 game-two decision before a back-and-forth third set ended with King winning 28-26.
King scored the final six points of the first game. Three of the points came via Brevard attack errors. King had trailed by four points before taking a 16-15 lead. The match was tied twice before King reeled off the eventual game-winning run.
Game two saw Brevard take an early 3-1 lead, but King scored four straight and never looked back.
In the third set, the home team jumped out and led by as many as four, 10-6. King rebounded and took the lead 14-13. King broke the 13-13 tie when Amber Jones () served an ace. Brevard regained control with a 22-21 lead forcing King to call a timeout. King saw Brevard serve three match points, but the Lady Tornado tied the match at 24. Jones then served an ace to end the match making the score 28-26.
King will host the 2010 NCCAA Mid-East Region tournament on Nov. 19 and 20. The tournament winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCCAA Division I National Tournament in December. The finalized bracket for the event will be announced Monday.
