BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College was handed a 3-0 sweep Tuesday against Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University in women's volleyball play.
The set scores went 25-18, 25-19 and 25-20 as King went to 18-5 on the season. Lenoir-Rhyne left with a 9-11 record.
Ashley Pittman (Norris, Tenn.) had a match-high 11 kills with 10 by Morgan Machen (Kingsport, Tenn.). Shannon Earwood (Carson City, Nev.) provided 29 assists. Natalie Brown (Brentwood, Tenn.) led the Lady Tornado in the digs category with a dozen.
The Lady Tornado hit .157 as a team which is the fifth time King had hit below .200 going 1-4 in such contests. The squad had 15 attack errors and 10 serve errors.
Lenoir-Rhyne got nine kills by Katelin Wensley and 29 assists from Kaitlyn Burton.
In both the first and second sets King trailed early 6-0 and 5-0. The Lady Tornado never led until a 1-0 advantage in game three. However after that Lenoir-Rhyne went onto take a 5-4 lead and King never led again.
King travels to play Montreat (N.C.) College Thursday at 6:30 p.m. before Friday and Saturday playing at the Pacer Volleyball Invitational.
