BOONE, N.C. – In their final tune up before the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships, the King University women's track and field team turned in a solid performance the Mountaineer Open hosted by Appalachian State University. Eliza Parker posted a personal best in the mile and won the 3,000 meter run while Maegan Henry won both the weight throw shot put.
In the mile run, Parker crossed the finish line in 5:24.73, setting a personal record by nearly 10 seconds. She continued her stellar weekend with a time of 10:51.10 in the 3,000 meter run to win the race by nearly two seconds. Her time was only three seconds off of her fastest career time.
In the shot put, Henry posted a toss of 13.29 meters, which won the event by more than one meter. Her toss would was good enough for her to finish third in the Division I section of the meet. In the weight throw, she posted a toss of 14.47 meters to win by nearly 0.3 meters. Also in the weight throw, Christina Atkinson set a personal record with a toss of 11.63 meters.
In the 300 meters, Lindsey Burnett turned in a solid performance with a time of 45.86 seconds.
King will be in action again on February 23 at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships where they will try to defend their conference title. The meet will take place at JDLFastTrack in Winston-Salem, N.C.
