King Men's and Women's Track & Field will be in action locally this weekend at the Niswonger Invitational, hosted by ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn. **provided by ETSU sports information**
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – King Men and Women Track & Field will compete in the 35th annual Niswonger Foundation Track and Field Invitational/KTC High School Invitational on Friday (Jan. 18) and Saturday (Jan. 19) inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletics Center on the David E. Walker Track and Gentry Field. The meet is being hosted by East Tennessee State University.
The two-day meet begins Friday morning at 10 a.m., with the prelims of the women's 60m hurdles, the women's triple jump finals and the women's weight throw finals. Opening day collegiate events end following the men's and women's 5K run at 7 p.m., before the meet picks back up on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with another session of the men's and women's 5K. The final events of the meet are the men's and women's 4x400m relay, which being at 6:30 p.m.
"We look forward to hosting the Niswonger Invitational once again," Director of ETSU Track & Field/Cross Country George Watts said. "It has been a great meet for over three decades, which draws a lot of great teams and student-athletes. We are hoping to continue this meet in the years to come, and improve on it each year as we go.
Over 800 student-athletes from more than 60 collegiate teams will be competing in the meet. Those teams include Anderson College, Appalachian State, Austin Peay, Benedict College, Bryan College, Chattanooga, Emory, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, King College, Lee University, Lipscomb, Mars Hill, MTSU, Milligan, Montreat, Murray State, Roanoke College, Southern University at New Orleans, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee Wesleyan, Tusculum, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, Western Carolina and Wofford.
Track events to be held include the men's and women's 60m dash, 60m hurdles, 200m dash, 400m dash, 800m run, mile run, 3000m run, 5000m run, DMR and 4x400m relay. Men's and women's field events include the pole vault, shot put, weight throw, long jump, high jump and triple jump. Preliminaries will be held for the 60m dash, 60m hurdles, 200m dash and 400m dash. All other events will consist of only finals sessions.

The Niswonger Invitational will be King's second indoor meet of the season after kicking off the year on Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at the Appalachian Invitational. Maegan Henry (Bluefield, Va.) led the women's side with a second-place finish in the shot put, registering a meet-high 12.98m throw. The Lady Tornado also have six top-5 finishes on the track. The men had three top-5 placers between the 200-meter dash and 55m hurdle events.
