HARROGATE, TN - The King University men's and women's team fell in their season opening matches to Lincoln Memorial University on Thursday. Strong matches we played throughout the lineup, however the men fell 7-2, while the women lost 8-1.
The men's wins were provided by junior Ro Avila in a very tough 3 set match against Will Sparks, 6-7, 7-5,6-4, and a strong win by junior Pablo Vidal over Marcelo Alvim by a score of 6-4, 7-5. Senior Captain Patrick Jones battled strongly in his match with Alexi Minevisky before falling 6-4, 6-3.
On the women's side, freshman newcomer Naomi Reyes garnered her first collegiate win in her first outing, beating Alexandra Granger handily 6-2, 6-2. Reyes showed strong strokes and calm determination in her first win for the Tornado. Reyes paired with freshman Mariana Hosomi in doubles in a tough first match together battling strongly before eventually falling 8-3. Senior captain Karissa King paired with first year player sophomore Amanda Huffaker in doubles starting their match off strongly, leading 3-0 before falling to the Railsplitters by a score of 8-4.
Both teams will be on the road again next week, February 27th, in their first conference match against North Greenville.
