Lights go out for King at Milligan, 5-3

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. - King College tried to rally Tuesday, but the Lady Tornado was unable to as the squad was defeated 5-3 at Milligan (Tenn.) College in a marathon contest.

Doubles action got underway at shortly before 6 p.m. and the match did not come to a close until 11 p.m. The final point was scored just seconds before the automatic lights at Milligan's Mathes Tennis Center shut down for the night.

In doubles play the lone King point came at No. 2 when Nerece Stoltz (Witbank, South Africa) and Karissa King (Rockwood, Tenn.) was an 8-5 winner.

Four of the six singles' matches went to a third set with King taking one, one being stopped due to the lights with Milligan winning the other two. The lone Lady Tornado three-set singles' win was by Crystal Harwell (Nashville, Tenn.) at No. 3. Harwell had to come from behind for the 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4 victory.

Eden Sherrod (Kingston, Tenn.) added a 6-4 and 6-4 win in No. 6 singles' play for the Lady Tornado.

Sarah Anderson (Bristol, Tenn.) and King were overtaken in three-set contests as singles' players.

The Lady Tornado, now at 3-1, will return to the court Friday at Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University. The 2 p.m. contest will close out King's fall schedule.
