GREENVILLE, S.C. - King College's Nerece Stoltz was honored by the NCCAA with the Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week award, the national office announced.
Stoltz, a senior from Witbank, South Africa, went 2-1 in both singles and doubles play a week ago.
She started with a doubles win, 8-2, with Brittany Freund (Bluefield, W.Va.) over North Greenville's No. 2 duo. Stoltz was later overtaken in singles in a hard fought 6-3, 6-2 decision in the No. 3 singles' match. At Greensboro (N.C.) she did not lose a game in doubles or singles Saturday as her and Freund won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Sunday at Winston-Salem State she helped King stay in the match with her No. 3 singles' victory of 4-6, 7-5 (11-9), once again at No. 3.
This is the first time a Lady Tornado has won the women's tennis national weekly award this season.
Overall King's record stands at 5-4 before Friday's 1 p.m. scheduled match at Tusculum (Tenn.) College.
