Tornado go 2-1 at season opening meet
GAINSVILLE, Ga. – The King University women's swimming & diving team opened their season with a pair of wins at Brenau University. The Tornado topped Thomas College 55-29 and Milligan College 48-46, but fell to hosts Brenau 73-21 to open the 2013-14 season.
King only posted one individual victory, but had numerous second place finishes at their first meet of the year. Senior Kelsey Wiese took home King's lone victory as she finished first in the 100 meter freestyle with a time of 56.86 seconds. Wiese then took home a second place finish in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 25.89 seconds.
Olivia Langford had a solid first meet as a Tornado, coming home with a pair of second place finishes. The sophomore took second in the 500 meter freestyle with a time of 5:30.24, and set a new school record in the 1,000 meter freestyle. Her time of 11:09.96 shattered the previous school record of 11:23.58 that was set in 2009.
Also in the 100 meter freestyle, Jade Schroeder set a new personal record with a time of 59.89 seconds. That marked the first time in her career she has finished in less than one minute.
King will be in action again on October 18 when they travel to Gaffney, S.C., to participate in the Conference Carolinas Invitational.
