BRISTOL, Tenn. – For their performances last week, King University's Becca Huddleston and Paula Doran were selected Tennessee Sports Writers Association Players of the week. Huddleston helped lead the women's volleyball team to a 2-1 week while Doran led the women's soccer team to a pair of wins.
Huddleston was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association's Volleyball Player of the Week on Wednesday, averaging 3.77 kills and 2.08 digs per set with a pair of double-doubles in three matches for the Tornado. The Lewisville, Texas, native collected a then career-high 18 kills to go along with 13 digs in a five-set win at Belmont Abbey College, King's first win at Belmont Abbey since 2011 and only the second-ever victory for the Tornado in the Wheeler Center. The freshman tallied 12 kills and four digs versus Pfeiffer University where she hit .579 in the match. Huddleston capped the week with a career-best 19 kills and added 10 digs against Georgia College, her ninth double-double of the year.
Doran led the Tornado to two Conference Carolinas wins last week, registering two goals and three assists. The Kildare, Ireland, native scored in the third minute and added an assist on a corner kick in a 4-1 victory over Southern Wesleyan University. The senior midfielder assisted on a pair of goals and scored another in a win against Erskine University. She leads Conference Carolinas with eight assists and also has three goals for King.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday night when they travel to take on Lees-McRae College at 5:00 p.m. They close the regular season on Saturday when they host Barton College. The Tornado women's volleyball team travels to take on Barton on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and faces the University of Mount Olive on Saturday.
