BRISTOL, Tenn. – Following an excellent performance, King University women's soccer player Kendyl Baird was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Baird tallied four goals in a 6-0 Tornado victory over the University of Mount Olive on Saturday.
Baird posted the second four-goal game for King since they became NCAA Division II members in 2011, finding the back of the net four times against Mount Olive. Her first goal came in the 38th minute when she placed her shot from the top of the box over the keeper, giving King a 2-0 lead. She added three goals in the second half, the first from the left side of the box to the back post over the keeper. Her third goal came in the 57th minute from 30 yards out into the lower right side of the net. She capped the performance with a shot into the lower left of the net in the 59th minute.
The four goals doubles her season total and lifted her into the Conference Carolinas lead with eight tallies on the season. This is the first ECAC Weekly award for Baird this season and the second straight for the Tornado women's soccer program as Miranda Smith won the award last week.
The Tornado will be in action again on Wednesday when they travel to take on #21 Limestone College. Kickoff from Gaffney, S.C. is slated for 5:00 p.m.
