Montgomery will join King after finishing her career with the Patrick Henry Rebels where she started as soon as she hit the pitch as a freshman. She earned All-District and All-Region First Team honors over her career and has played for Fusion FC (Bristol, Tenn.) and High Country Soccer Association (Boone, N.C.) in addition to her time with the Virginia ’93 Olympic Development Program.
Kara is the daughter of Don and Theresa Montgomery. Her father is the current head football coach at Emory and Henry College and her sister, Katelyn, is a 2010 graduate of King.
DUFFY ON MONTGOMERY: “Kara will be an exciting addition to our squad next year. Her pace, athleticism and dynamic runs will bring another dimension to our attacking line and she will be a real threat in front of goal. Her work ethic and attitude both on and off the field should set her up to make an immediate impact on the program.”

Thorpe took the pitch at Iroquois High School in Ontario, Canada where she was also an honor roll student. Her club team experience was spent with Erin Mills and Brams UTD, both very prestigious clubs out of Ontario. She is the daughter of Robert and Bianca Thorpe.
DUFFY ON THORPE: “Rachel will come in as a freshman looking to contribute immediately. She has played at the highest level of club soccer in Ontario and will look to use that experience in her first year. She is an extremely good athlete with an eye for the goal and we should see her scoring goals from several positions on the park. She should thrive and grow as an athlete and student in her new environment. We are excited to have her on board.”
Boone, N.C. / Watauga HS

Baird played her varsity soccer at Watauga High School under Coach Brittany Bolick where she hit the pitch running her freshman year. In her first year with the program, Baird earned All-Conference honors and followed her sophomore year with an All-Region award. During her junior year, she earned both All-Conference and All-Region while scoring 16 goals to rank her in the top-5 in the Charlotte Region.
Strong in her academics, she was named a three-time Academic letter winner, and was a member of the National Honors Society and Beta Club. She played her club ball with the HCSA Avalanche (Boone, N.C.) under Kiki Wallace.
DUFFY ON BAIRD: “Kendyl is an attacking minded player who has an excellent presence in the middle of the park. She retains possession of the ball well whilst being a modern day, combative, center midfielder. The team will also benefit from Kendyl’s versatility utilizing her ability to play out wide or even in a forward position. Kendyl will excel as a freshman not only on the field but in the classroom also.”
