Lady Tornado Soccer schedule released for 2010

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The 2010 King College women's soccer schedule has been released by first-year head coach Louis Thorpe.

The Lady Tornado, who went 11-6-1 in 2009, starts this season with a home contest against Tennessee Wesleyan College on Sept. 4 at 2 p.m.

King goes on the road for matches at Anderson (S.C.) University and Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University on Sept. 8 and Sept. 11, respectively. Both teams finished with 12 or more wins as Anderson was 12-9 in 2009 while Lenoir-Rhyne went 14-7-2 and a No. 10 ranking in the Southeast Region.

A trio of home matches with Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University, Lees-McRae (N.C.) College and Young Harris (Ga.) College are next. King had wins over Lincoln Memorial and Lees-McRae a season ago and both matches were decided by a goal. The meeting with Young Harris will be the first for the Lady Tornado.

After playing at Limestone (S.C.) College, King welcomes Concord (W.Va.) University on Oct. 2 before an Oct. 6 contest at Tusculum (Tenn.) College. Once again King defeated both Concord and Tusculum by a lone goal in 2009. Tusculum received votes in the final NCAA Division II National Poll after being ranked No. 3 in the region thanks to a 15-5-3 record.

A trip to Bryan (Tenn.) College on Oct. 9 comes before a home contest with Carson-Newman (Tenn.) College, the defending regular season South Atlantic Conference champion. Carson-Newman finished 2009 at 20-3-1, No. 1 in the region and No. 5 nationally. After that King has home dates with Mars Hill (N.C.) College and Milligan (Tenn.) College.

Another conference champion follows as King travels to Conference Carolinas regular season champ Belmont Abbey College on Oct. 23.

The regular season comes to a close on Nov. 6 with a match at North Greenville (S.C.) University.

King has nine teams on the 2010 schedule from last season and the Lady Tornado went 6-3 against the teams in 2009. Overall King's 2010 opponents had a .586 winning percentage in 2009 as eight teams won 10 or more matches and another three squads were over .500.

The schedule has seven matches at home and eight on the road. The Lady Tornado has felt at home at Parks Field recently thanks to a 36-9-1 record (.793 winning percentage) in the last five seasons which included a 7-2 mark in 2009.
