King drops final two duals at Super Region II Duals

BELMONT, N.C. – On the second day of the Super Region II Duals, the King University men's wrestling team squared off with two of the top teams in the nation, No. 4 Ashland University and No. 18 University of Findlay. The Tornado grabbed the lead against Ashland early, but ultimately fell 36-3 before falling to Findlay 27-18.

HOW IT HAPPENED – ASHLAND

  • Reed Jacks put the Tornado ahead early, taking a 9-2 decision over Dan Morell at 125 pounds.
  • In what may have been the best match of the dual, 11th-ranked Bob Mason for Ashland edged ninth-ranked Bryce Killian 7-3 in overtime.
  • From there, the Eagles won the rest of the duals, including three from ranked wrestlers to take the dual 36-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED – FINDLAY

  • King got off to a good start, winning the first three matches, starting with a Jacks 6-5 decision over Zachary Collins.
  • Fourth-ranked Dustin Kirk followed with a 3-2 decision over Mike Stewart and Killian gave King a 9-0 lead with a 5-2 decision over Ryan Skonieczny.
  • A pair of Oiler wins put Findlay ahead 10-9 before Bailey Slattman took a win by forfeit to vault King back into the lead.
  • However, Findlay earned a win to even the score at 15- and another win to take a 21-15 lead.
  • Elijah Seay pulled King within 21-18 with a 5-2 decision over Armani Robinson, but the Oilers took the final bout by medial forfeit to take the dual 27-18
