King falls at #16 Newberry in ECAC dual

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The King University men's wrestling team traveled to take on 16th-ranked Newberry College in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) dual. King gave a pair of forfeits, falling behind early and couldn't recover as Newberry took the contest 30-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tornado fell behind Newberry early as they had to take a pair of forfeits due to injuries, giving the Wolves 12 points.
  • Fourth-ranked Dustin Kirk came up for King first at 133 pounds and earned a 5-4 decision over eighth-ranked Jordan Simpson to get King on the board.
  • Newberry then took a pair of wins, including a highly contested 6-5 decision at 149 pounds, to take a 12-3 lead.
  • Cory Collins got King back on the board at 157 pounds with a 9-4 decision over Joey Rocca.
  • The Wolves again took a pair of wins before Elijah Seay earned a tight 2-0 decision with riding time and an escape in the third period to defeat Dennis Flores at 184 pounds.
  • Newberry took the final two bouts to take the dual 30-9.

UP NEXT

  • King returns to Student Center Complex to take on Limestone College on Thursday. The ECAC dual is slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
