BRISTOL, Tenn. – D2Wrestle.com released their first rankings of the season and Dustin Kirk jumped into the rankings for the first time in his career. The Tornado were also receiving votes in the national poll for the first time in four years.
Kirk is ranked 11th 133 pounds following a solid start in his first year wearing the scarlet and navy, where he has posted a 6-4 record in the early going. At the Kaufman/Brand Open, the Lake Elsinore, Calif., native finished fifth, taking a win by pin in 6:50 over Hunter Haralson of Lindenwood University. He followed that with an 11-2 major decision over Francis Edelen of the University of Illinois. Kirk then finished first at the King Open with a pair of victories before helping the Tornado to their first ECAC victory. He pinned John Gahagan in 2:42, helping King to a 30-10 dual victory over Belmont Abbey College.
The Tornado are receiving votes in the national poll for the first time since February 13, 2013 when they were also receiving votes. The last time King was ranked nationally was on February 28, 2012 when they were ranked 17th.
King will be in action again this weekend at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. The tournament is scheduled to start on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
