Trio of Pins Part of 45-3 Domination of Belmont Abbey
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Tornado Men's Wrestling improved to 4-2 in an emphatic way with its 45-3 demolition of the Belmont Abbey Crusaders, Thursday night. King rolled out nine consecutive victories to run away with their largest dual meet win of the year.
Colin Crume (Mishawaka, Ind./UW-Parkside) earned the Tornado's first win of the night and one of three pins recorded by the team. In the waning seconds of the second period, he pinned Jacob Tutterow (133 lbs.) after battled to get his back on the mat before the buzzer sounded. The sophomore gave King a 6-3 lead and never looked back for the duration of the meet.
Of the four bouts decided by points, King won by no less than four points in every bout and greater than six in three of those.
Brandon Tressler (Orlando, Fla.) earned a technical fall over Wesley Buffer in the second period, sealing the meet victory when the whistle blew at 21-6. Freshman Cody Davis (Pigeon Forge, Tenn.) and redshirt-sophomore Garrett Fosdyck (Mathews, Va.) followed with pins over their opponents at 197 and 285. Davis notched his with five seconds left of the clock in the first period while Fosdyck recorded his fall just 46 seconds into the second period.
Also winning by pin was freshman John Austin Jones (Alabaster, Ala.) when he put down Markus Cromwell 54 seconds into the third period.
King is now 4-2 in dual meets this season with two left on the schedule. Both duals are on the road, and will take place on Feb. 9 beginning at Lake Erie College (Painesville, Ohio). The Tornado will take on host Lake Erie and then compete against Mercyhurst later in the day.
Following their final duals of the season, the Tornado will prepare for the Super Region II Championships held in Ashland, Ohio on Feb. 23-24.
