CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The King men's wrestling team competed in its final competition of 2012 at the UNI Open on Saturday, Dec. 8. freshman Andrew Lutterloh led the Tornado with four wins out of the heavyweight division.
Lutterloh, a freshman from Alexandria, Va., began the day with a 6-0 shutout victory over Dan Lovik (Minnesota State) before being sent to the consolation bracket after a second round defeat. He then rattled off three consecutive wins, one by pin. His first victory in the consolation bracket was a close 1-0 decision Don Dawson (Minnesota State). Lutterloh then pinned Ben Schnurr (Iowa Central CC) in the first period to advance against Evan Wooding (Indianapolis). Wooding and Lutterloh took a 1-1 decision through three periods, forcing overtime. Lutterloh recorded the first points of the overtime session to take away a 3-1 win before being eliminated with a 4-2 overall mark on the day in the heavyweight division.
A total of 11 members of the King wrestling team competed at Saturday's open tournament. Five of those individuals recorded two or more wins before being eliminated from competition including Jerrelle McCabe (125#), Collin Crume (133#), Jeremy Miller (157#), Garrett Fosdyck (285#/HWT), and Lutterloh.
Collin Crume (Mishawaka, Ind./UW-Parkside) began his day strongly in the 133-pound class. In his opening bout, Crume defeated Quashan Logan (Iowa Central CC) via a second round pin (3:50), followed by a win by technical fall (16-0) over John Shadursky (Ellsworth) before losing twice to end his day.
Garrett Fosdyck (Mathews, Va.) also recorded a win by fall over Jacob Clark (Central Missouri). He pinned Clark just before the close of the second period (5:58) in his second and final win of the day.
The Tornado will compete next on Jan. 5 at the Storm Open, hosted by Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. The Storm Open will be the final open tournament before King begins dual competition at the University of Indianapolis when they take on UI and Maryville University on Jan. 11.
