Brandon Tressler led the Tornado with three wins at Sunday's Hokie Open, hosted by Virginia Tech. A host of King grapplers finished with a pair of wins at the tournament.

SALEM, Va. – The King men's wrestling team fought hard against wrestlers from the likes of the ACC and Big Ten institutions at the Hokie Open on Sunday afternoon at the Salem Civic Center.  Senior Brandon Tressler led the Tornado with three wins while Cody Broomall competed unattached and also turned in a trio of victories.

Brandon Tressler (Orlando, Fla.) had a strong day as well for the Tornado and started off with a solid 13-6 win over Duke wrestler, Dylan Ryan. After a loss by pin to Dan Rinaldi (Rutgers), Tressler bounced back with a win by fall over his teammate, Bobby Zimmerman at the 3:24 mark. Tressler then posted a narrow 3-2 victory over Greg Isley (USAFA) before falling to Luke Sheridan of Indiana University.

Cody Broomall (Millsboro, Del.) began his day in the 133-pound bracket with a 9-1 major decision win against DJ Jules of Newberry College and followed that up with a 4-2 victory against Tanner Bindelspach of Campbell University.  Broomall then lost a tough 4-1 decision in double overtime to Joey Ward of the University of North Carolina.  Broomall bounced back with his third win of the day, 4-2, versus Jake Smith of Appalachian State University. Broomall's strong day came to a close in a 10-3 loss to Aaron Hansen (The Citadel). The freshman wrestled unattached during the event for King.

Freshman Madison Martin (Ringgold, Ga.), sophomore Tywan Claxton (Cleveland, Ohio), and sophomore Garrett Fosdyck (Matthews, Va.) each added two wins for the Tornado.

Claxton, ranked sixth in the nation at 149 pounds, defeated Aaron Walker of The Citadel by major decision, 12-4, and also won over Hofstra's Cody Ruggierello, 5-1.

Fosdyck (285) had impressive wins by pin over VMI's Michael Laprade just 1:47 into the match and against Matt Colter of Newberry at the 3:29 mark.

The Tornado will be back on the mat at the Pembroke Open, hosted by UNC-Pembroke, on Saturday, November 11 with a start time scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
