Tornado Storm into Regionals Today

BRISTOL, Tenn. –  King Men's Wrestling begins its quest for a regional championship and an appearance at the NCAA Division II National Championship at today's Super Region Two Championships. The tournament is being held in Edmond, Okla. and is being hosted by University of Central Oklahoma. King College takes nine regionally ranked wrestlers and a team fifth place ranking into the tournament.

Jerrelle  McCabe (125),  Cullen King (133), Tywan Claxton (141), Jeremy Miller (157), Patrick Spano (165), Dyvon Passmore (174), Brandon Tressler (184), Frank Morgan (197), and Dondricus Anderson (285) make up the list of King wrestlers taking a regional ranking into this weekend's regional tournament. Claxton and Morgan each remain nationally ranked in their respective weight classes. King as a team takes a No. 18 national ranking into Edmond.

Five nationally-ranked teams, including No. 18 King, help make up the field of 11 teams in the Super Region Two Championships. Those teams include No. 6 Central Oklahoma, No. 10 Ashland (Ohio), No. 13 Findlay (Ohio), No. 15 Limestone (S.C.), and King (Tenn.). Filling out the rest of the competing teams are Belmont Abbey (N.C.), Central Missouri, Lake Erie (Ohio), Ouachita Baptist (Ark.), Tiffin (Ohio) and Truman State (Mo.).

The tournament opens at 12:00 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 25) with championship first round and quarterfinal action and resumes at 4:00 p.m. with two rounds of consolation matches. Championship and consolation semifinals will be held at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, with the third- and fifth-place matches set for 4:00 p.m., followed by the championship finals and any challenge matches for "true" fourth.

Wrestlers are competing for a berth in the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, set for March 9-10 in Pueblo, Colorado. The top-four placers at each of the 10 weights -- 40 in all -- advance to the national tournament. Each region qualifies 40 individuals to give the national tournament a 160-wrestler field, with 16 competitors at each weight vying for All-America honors and an individual national championship.

Twenty-two top-six placers are back from last year's Super Regional Two Championships. The list includes (by weight):

125 - Ben Sergent, Findlay (2nd); 133 - Michael Magaha, Limestone (1st); 141 - Dan Mandara, Ashland (1st at 125); 149 - Ryan Maus, Truman State (3rd at 141); Ky Corley, Central Oklahoma (4th at 141); Marc Hoff, Ashland (5th at 157); Nic Stella, King (5th); 157 - Cory Dauphin, Central Oklahoma (2nd); Dan Genetin, Ashland (2nd at 149); 165 - Mason True, Findlay (5th at 174); 174 - Michael Lybarger, Findlay (1st at 165); Bryce Sopko, Limestone (2nd); Kelly Henderson, Central Oklahoma (3rd); Willie Ressel, Central Missouri (6th); 184 - Tanner Keck, Central Oklahoma (2nd); Adam Walters, Findlay (3rd at 157); Brandon Tressler, King (4th); 197 - Charles Morgan, King (1st); Jarrett Edison, Central Oklahoma (4th); Hvy - Jacob Southwick, Ashland (1st); Cody Dauphin, Central Oklahoma (4th); Andrew Tumlin, Findlay (5th).
