Tornado jumped in NCAA Division II Super Region II Rankings

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The King College men's wrestling team was bumped down to No. 7 in the latest NCAA Division II Super Region II Coaches Ranking, the organization announced.

The Tornado was placed at No. 6 in the preseason rankings in late October. This ranking was the first of the regular season.

Belmont-Abbey (N.C.) College made the jump from No. 7 to No. 5 to shake up the rankings. King was not the only team to fall a spot, Limestone (S.C.) College was replaced at No. 5 by Belmont-Abbey and moved into No. 6.

The Top-4 teams remained the same, with six-time and defending NCAA Division II National Champion Nebraska Omaha at No. 1. The University of Findlay (Ohio) was next with the University of Central Oklahoma and Ashland (Ohio) University in third and fourth.

The University of Central Missouri, Truman State (Mo.) University and Tiffin (Ohio) University were ranked No. 8 to No. 10, respectively, once again.

King will wrestle Belmont-Abbey in Bristol on Feb. 9. The Tornado and Limestone will also get together on Jan. 17.

The NCAA Division II Super Region II Tournament is scheduled for Feb. 26 in Findlay, Ohio, where the Top-4 from each weight class earns trips to the NCAA Division II National Championship March 11-12 in Kearney, Neb.

This is the first season for King to compete as a NCAA Division II member under the direction of fifth-year head coach Nate Moorman.

The ranking was based on a regional committee.

King started the dual match portion of the schedule Tuesday and won a 36-6 match over visiting Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) College. The Tornado will be a part of the Midwest Classic Dec. 18-19 to close out the 2010 portion of the schedule.
