Women’s Golf Slated for Top-3 Finish

King Women's Golf was selected to finish third in the 2013 Conference Carolinas Preseason Coaches' Poll.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Conference Carolinas released the 2013 Women's Golf Preseason Coaches' Poll. King University found itself in the top-3 of the preseason rankings, placing third behind Queens University of Charlotte and Mount Olive College.

Freshman Elizabeth Swallow will help lead the Lady Tornado golf squad after a strong fall season that included two top-5 individual finishes and four top-10 performances. She averaged 77.38 strokes per round to lead the team, twice hitting a low of 75 at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate and Patsy Rendleman Invitational.

Sophomores Anna Walker (83.50) and Cortnee Young (84.13) shore up the 2-3 spots in the King lineup and if senior Esther Gandarias can return to All-Conference form from her junior year, King is primed for a strong finish come conference tournament time. Young had one top-10 finish, posting it at her home King College Invitational on Oct. 8-9.

As a team, the Lady Tornado had two top-5 finishes with their best being at the King College Invitational. In that tournament, the four-some finished second overall and followed that showing with a fifth-place finish at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational on Oct. 15-16.

Queens University of Charlotte enters the spring season ranked first for the second year in a row. Grace Glaze and a host of freshmen will help the Royals compete at the top of the conference. Mount Olive is coming off its best season in school history and despite losing last year's Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and Conference Carolinas Tournament Champion, the Trojans put together an outstanding fall season.

Rounding out the top five are Erskine College and Pfeiffer University who tied for fourth. The complete poll is listed below.

The Lady Tornado will open the spring season with a two-day tournament on Feb. 16 at the Tusculum Pioneer Classic, hosted by Tusculum College.
