PINEHURST, N.C. - The King College women's golf team closed out the Pinehurst Challenge Tuesday five shots better than Monday as the team moved up in the team standings.
The Lady Tornado finished 16th after a 390 Tuesday as King finished with a two-day score of 785. Brevard (N.C.) College finished 17th with a 922 total while Barry (Fla.) University was unable to compile a team score putting the squad last in the field. Coker (S.C.) College was 15th with a two-day total of 741.
Malorie McBride (Brentwood, Tenn.) paced the Lady Tornado Tuesday with her 88, 18 shots better than Monday's score. Chelsea Gammon (Blountville, Tenn.) carded a 98 and left her a stroke behind McBride in the individual standings. Karissa King (Rockwood, Tenn.) posted a 100 while Kerby Jones (Franklin, Tenn.) added a 104 to the team score.
North Carolina Pembroke and Saint Leo University tied for the team title with two-day totals of 624, but UNC Pembroke was declared the winner after the scorecard playoff. Newberry (S.C.) College was two shots away from the top spot.
Jordan Hatch, from Saint Leo, won the individual medalist honors with a two-day score of 147.
Once again no golfer broke par on the Par-72 layout that covered 5,835 yards.
