BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team has won seven straight contests, including their Conference Carolinas Tournament quarterfinal and the Tornado are ranked eighth in the final NCAA Southeast Regional Rankings.
In the final rankings before the NCAA Tournament field is selected, King is seventh, one spot ahead of the University of Mount Olive, who the Tornado face on Thursday night. Against regionally ranked teams, King is 2-5, having beaten Mount Olive twice and falling to Columbus State University, Lincoln Memorial University, Carson-Newman University and Limestone College twice.
The second seeded Tornado advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament with their win over Belmont Abbey College on Monday night and will face Mount Olive for the four time in three weeks. The semifinal contest against third seeded Mount Olive is scheduled 7:30 p.m. at Limestone College on Thursday night.
King goes into the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinals with a record of 23-6, their most wins since joining NCAA Division II and the most wins since 2003-04 when the Tornado won 24 games. Should the Tornado win, they will face top seed Limestone College or fourth seed Barton College on Friday night at Limestone.
The NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament field will be announced on Sunday night at 10:00 p.m. Fans can watch the selection show live on NCAA.com.
