BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University's Whitney Mitchell garnered Tennessee Sports Writer's Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors on Wednesday, averaging 23.5 points and 5.0 assists per game in a pair of victories last week for the Tornado.
The Oak Ridge, Tenn., native started the week hitting 8-of-12 shots and making 9-for-13 at the foul line for 26 points in an 88-74 win at Erskine College. The senior guard also handed out six assists in the contest.
Mitchell closed the week with 21 points and four assists in a 69-67 victory over Barton College, connecting on 7-of-15 shots overall and 6-of-7 at the foul line. For the week, Mitchell led King with averages of 23.5 points and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the floor.
Mitchell and the Tornado are in action again on Wednesday in the Student Center Complex when the take on regional rival UVa-Wise. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
