Lady Tornado Defeat Salem International Again for Third Straight Win

Senior Allison Bosse was one rebound short of a double-double and led the Lady Tornado with 11 points in their 65-45 victory of the Tigers.

SALEM, W.Va. – Behind strong shooting in the first half led by Alley Sprouse and Allison Bosse's team-high 11 points, the Lady Tornado defeated Salem International University for the second time this season by a score of 65-45. Bosse was one rebound shy of recording a double-double while King improved to 5-2 with their third consecutive win.

King began the game on a 12-4 run spurred by sophomore Chelsea Bowling (Elizabethton, Tenn.) who hit back-to-back three pointers to put the Lady Tornado ahead early. Allison Bosse (Knoxville, Tenn.) hit her first of four field goals to put the Lady Tornado up six points before Stephanie Brantley (Pilot Mountain, N.C.) came straight off the bench and added her first points of the game with a layup, putting King ahead by eight.

The Lady Tornado's lead extended into double digits for the first time near the 10-minute mark of the first half when Alley Sprouse (Newport, Tenn.) continued her perfect first half with a layup to put the team up 22-12. Sprouse completed the first half going a perfect 4-for-4 from field goal range.

Beginning at 11:16 left in the first, King scored the next 10 points to extend their lead to 14 points and put one more on the board going into halftime for a 36-21 midway lead. The Lady Tornado ruled the paint by scoring 22 of their 36 points in the lane.

The second half was more evenly matched despite King outscoring SIU by five points, 29-25, in the frame. The final four minutes put the game away for King as they built upon their 12 point lead with a 10-2 run to close out the game. Bosse scored six of her 11 points during this time by going 2-for-4 from the field, 2-for-2 from the free throw line, while tallying four of her nine total rebounds.

Inkera Patterson led the Tigers with 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting and was the only player in double figures for SIU. She also had two steals.

Joining Bosse in double-digit scoring was Alley Sprouse who finished 5-for-10 with 10 points and four rebounds. She recorded King's only block on the day.

Senior Brooke Johnson was held to four points in the contest marking the second straight game being held to that many points. She now has 69 points on the season and is 161 from reaching 1,000 points in her career.

King (5-2) has now won three games in a row with this their second win over SIU this season after their 71-45 victory over the Tigers on Dec. 4. They will play at Barton on Jan. 3 in their next game as part of a basketball doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Wilson, N.C. Their next home game will be Jan. 5 against Belmont Abbey College.
