Saints Top Tornado, 54-45

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King Lady Tornado offense was held to 45 points, led by freshman Alley Sprouse's 15 points in a nine-point loss to the Limestone Saints. With the loss, King falls to 3-15 overall, 3-7 in Conference Carolinas play.

Both team jostled back and forth through the first half, King and Limestone played to a 32-30 tie at the half, bolstered by Alley Sprouse's 10 points in the first half. Limestone built up a seven-point lead, 29-22, though free throws down the stretch from Kalen Collins (Wise, Va.) and Sprouse helped close the gap and eventually tie the game at 30. Limestone's Kaileigh West hit a jumper with thirty seconds to go to take a two-point lead before a pair of turnovers from each team ended the half.

After Maria Young hit a three-point shot with 12:49 remaining to put Limestone up by six, beginning the Saints' breakaway that topped out at eight. She later expanded the lead to 10 points near the five minute mark with a pair of free throws and followed up with a layup following a King turnover. Holding a 12-point lead over the Lady Tornado, the Saints' defense  clamped down and forced two misses before King hit their last field goal attempt as time expired.

Sprouse, a native of (Newport, Tenn.), led the team with 15 points and shot 50 percent from the field on 4-of-8 shooting. She hit seven of her eight free throw shots and was one of two players with six rebounds. Kalen Collins led the squad with seven rebounds.

King continues their three-game home stand with a conference game against North Greenville on Feb. 2. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night.
