King Women's Basketball welcomes Brevard to start 2011
BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College has Brevard (N.C.) College on the schedule for Monday as the Lady Tornado resume play after the Christmas break. The game inside the Student Center will start at 6 p.m.
King will look to stop a four-game losing streak on Monday. The Lady Tornado's last win was a 67-56 victory over cross-town rival Virginia Intermont on Dec. 4.
Within King's 2-12 record, the team has a 1-3 mark against teams from North Carolina. The team started the season with a win over Pfeiffer 65-64 on Nov. 12. A day later Mars Hill won an 84-75 contest. The last two games of 2010 was in the state of North Carolina as Mars Hill came out on top 62-52 and King scored a season-high 98 points, but Wingate had 107 in a double-overtime meeting.
Last season King split a season series with Brevard. The Lady Tornado started with a 73-67 overtime win in a contest played in Jefferson City, Tenn. A week later Brevard evened the score with a 63-59 game at Brevard.
Monday's contest will be the first time Brevard has played in the Student Center since Dec. 6, 2005, when King won 60-57 as the two played in an Appalachian Athletic Conference meeting.
Ashley Deans (Greeneville, Tenn.) has the team's scoring lead with 15.4 points per game. The senior also leads the team in rebounds with 6.3 per contest. Derika Mooney (Athens, Tenn.) has added 10.8 points per game with 58 assists in 14 games.
The Lady Tornado has scored 59.9 points per game while opponents average 71.6. In King's two wins the team scored 67 and 65 points. In the other 12 games the team's scoring dipped to 58.8 points per game.
Brevard comes into 2011 with a 4-7 record with a three-game losing streak. Brevard played Tusculum (Tenn.) College Thursday coming up short 76-61. King and Tusculum met twice in the season with Tusculum taking both 74-43 and 64-46.
