BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University softball player Kay Brokering had a breakout week last week, leading the Tornado to three home victories. On Wednesday she was named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week.
The Shelbyville, Ind., native hit .417 with three doubles and seven runs batted in last week. She started the week with an RBI double to put King ahead of Concord University in the first inning of game one. Later in the game, she put King ahead again with a run scoring single in the sixth inning as the Tornado took the game 9-5. In the nightcap against Concord, she came up with two-run double in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie, giving King the 3-1 win.
In a game one win over Mars Hill University, Brokering again laced a two-out first inning RBI double to put King ahead. In the sixth inning she drove in a pair with a single in the 10-2 victory. On the week, Brokering slugged .667 in four games for the Tornado last week.
The Tornado are in action again this weekend when they travel to take on Erskine College at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and Emmanuel College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
