BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the second consecutive week, King University's Chrissy Melcher has been named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Softball Player of the Week. The junior posted a .588 batting average last week, ripping four doubles and a home run.
Melcher earned the honor for the second straight week after posting 10 hits in 17 at-bats (.588) in five contests with four doubles and nine runs scored. The Orlando, Fla., native collected a pair of hits with a double at Virginia Intermont College and registered five hits with two doubles, one RBI, three walks and six runs scored in a doubleheader at Erskine College. The junior was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two walks and three runs scored in the opener against the Flying Fleet.
Melcher had three hits in a twinbill at USC Aiken, including a solo homer and two runs scored in the second game. She is batting .538 for the season for the Tornado with nine doubles, 13 RBIs and 19 runs scored in 19 contests this season. She is currently on a 17 game hitting streak, and has at least one hit in all but one game this season.
King hosts Wingate University on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., before hosting Shorter University on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. The Tornado then travel to Dahlonega, Ga., for a tournament this weekend at the University of North Georgia where they will play the host Nighthawks and Kentucky Wesleyan University.
