BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University pitcher Hannah Light started off her senior season on high note last weekend, and was selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week. Light tossed a pair of shutouts at the Cougar Classic, including a season-opening win over #25 Columbus State University.
The reigning Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year nearly threw a no hitter in her first start of the year against #25 Columbus State University. Light carried the no-hit bid through six and one-thirds innings when the Cougars got their only hit of the game. Light struck out seven in the 2-0 win. The senior was nearly as dominant in her next start, a 4-0 win over Tusculum College. She allowed four hits and struck out seven in the complete game shutout of the Pioneers.
The Tornado are scheduled to play their home opener on Wednesday against Carson-Newman University with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. King is also scheduled to play at home on Saturday against UVa-Wise with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
