Lady Tornado Softball upended at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - King College was defeated twice at Carson-Newman (Tenn.) College Wednesday by scores of 9-0 and 9-1.

In the opener King's Stephanie Mueller (Mt. Washington, Ky.), Christy Kooch (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Fallon Thomas (Bristol, Va.) all had a hit apiece.

Carson-Newman, now 9-6-1 in 2011, scored a run in the first with five in the second. The home team used a fourth-inning run with two more in the fifth to bring the game to an end early. Carson-Newman had four players with two hits each.

Samantha Watts (Nashville, Tenn.) was handed the loss. Mary Shealy went all five innings for Carson-Newman in the contest for the victory.

Mueller had King's lone RBI on the day in the fifth inning of game two which allowed Shauna Haga (Blountville, Tenn.) to come home on the double.

Dariayn Wright posted a perfect 3-for-3 effort in game two for Carson-Newman. M. Shealy came back and threw five innings in the finale.

King's Rachael Wilmoth (Morristown, Tenn.) suffered the defeat on the mound.

The Lady Tornado, with a 0-6 mark, travels to the Boombah Savannah College of Art & Design Smash Hit Spring Break Tournament for three straight days of action. First for King will be a noon contest Friday against the University of Rio Grande (Ohio). At 2 p.m. that day King and Brewton-Parker (Ga.) College meet.
