NCCAA weekly award for Lady Tornado's Ringstaff
GREENVILLE, S.C. - King College freshman Cassie Ringstaff hit her way to NCCAA Softball Student-Athlete of the Week honors, the national office announced.
For the week Ringstaff (Richlands, Va.) went 9-for-23 on the week as King went 3-5 in eight games a week ago.
She started with a 1-for-3 effort in a pair of games at Carson-Newman (Tenn.) College with two walks.
At the SCAD Boombah Smash Hit Tournament she started with a 1-for-5 opening day in two games Friday. On Saturday Ringstaff helped King to a sweep by going 5-for-8 with a double, RBI, four runs scored and two walks. Against 2010 NAIA National Tournament qualifier SCAD she went 2-for-4 with a run, RBI, stolen base and double. Ringstaff followed with a 3-for-4 effort against Brewton Parker (Ga.) with three runs scored. In Sunday's finale she was 2-for-7 in two games.
After the eight games the freshman raised her batting average from .300 to .364. Her on base percentage for the week was .440.
She was placed on the SCAD Smash Hit Boombah All-Tournament team for her efforts.
Of King's 26 runs in the eight games on the week she scored four times and drove in two more. She pushed her hitting streak to five games, the longest by any King player this season.
King welcomes Tusculum (N.C.) College for a Tuesday softball doubleheader, the first on-campus games for the program, at 2 p.m.
