BLACKSBURG, Va. – An eighth-place finish by senior Spencer Frantom paced the King University men's cross country team at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on Friday.
Frantom ran a time of 25:39 in the eight kilometer event that featured Virginia Tech and East Tennessee State, an astounding 51 seconds faster than his time two weeks ago in the Eye Opener Invitational. "The course at Virginia Tech is much more challenging than what we ran last time, so I was very impressed with his performance today," said head coach Peter Dalton.
Junior Dickson Kurgat also improved on his time from the last meet, finishing in 26:07 to come in 39 seconds faster than two weeks ago. Tanner Cook showed great strides by finishing 13th overall with a time of 26:31.
East Tennessee State won the event, edging hosts Virginia Tech by a score of 28-30. King, the third-ranked team in the Division II Southeast Region, came in third with a score of 75.
The Tornado next return to action on Friday, October 4, traveling to Boone, N.C. to compete in the Mountaineer Open hosted by Appalachian State University.
