CoSIDA Academic All-District Honorees

BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the first time in his career, Tanner Cook has been selected Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Cook had stellar seasons for the Tornado on the course and the track as well as in the classroom, earning him the distinction when the organization announced the all-district teams on Thursday.

In the fall, Cook garnered All-Region honors for the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the third time his career for cross country. The Abingdon, Va., native paced the squad all season long, capping the season with a 15th place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional where he covered the 10k distance in 33:47.2. Prior to that, Cook earned second team All-Conference Carolinas honors after he finished eighth at the Conference Carolinas Championship with an 8k time of 27:07.4. His fastest 8k time of the season came at the Royals Challenge where he covered the distance in 25:51.8.

In the spring he set four track personal records, two coming in the indoor season and two more during the outdoor season. Covered the mile distance in 4:32.86 and posted a 3,000 meter personal best of 8:59.25 at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships where he finished seventh. Also at the indoor conference championships, Cook finished fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:19.64. During the outdoor season he finished fifth in the 10,000 meters at the conference championships with a time of 33:00.57 and earlier in the season he set a personal best in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32;11.42. Cook also set a personal record in the 1,500 meters, posting a time of 4:09.83.

Outside of running, the junior carries a 3.59 GPA while majoring in Sports Management. He was also active in Boy Scouts of America from 2013-16 and volunteers a church in his hometown of Abingdon.

Cook becomes the first Tornado men's cross country or track and field athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District. He will now be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-American honors which will be announced on June 23.
