BRISTOL, Tenn. – In their final tune up for the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships, both Eliza Parker and Justin Newring turned in stellar performances last week at the Mountaineer Open. Parker was named Conference Carolinas Women's Indoor Track Player of the week, and Newring earned the same honor on the men's side.
At the Mountaineer Open, Parker set a personal record by nearly 10 seconds in the mile as she finished second by just over one second with her time of 5:24.73. In the 3000 meter run, she finished first by nearly two seconds with a time of 10:51.10.
Newring had a stellar meet at the Mountaineer Open, which he began by tying his career-best time in winning the 400 meter dash. The junior had previously set his personal record at the Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State University last month. He had already attained an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the event. Newring followed up that record-setting performance by coming within .03 meters of his personal best in the triple jump on his way to finishing second with a jump of 13.02 meters.
Both the King men's and women's track and field teams will be in action again on February 23 at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships at JDLFastTrack in Winston-Salem, N.C. Both teams will be trying to repeat as conference indoor champions.
