BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the first time in his career, King University men's tennis player Moritz Poswiat was selected CoSIDA Academic All-District. He becomes the second men's tennis player to earn the distinction in the At-Large category when the honorees were announced on Thursday.
The Wuppertal, Germany native had a stellar junior campaign for the Tornado, earning first team All-Conference Carolinas honors as well as academic all-conference recognition. Poswiat is also the only student-athlete from a Conference Carolinas member school to garner CoSIDA All-District honors this year.
Off the court, Poswiat carries a 3.99 GPA while double majoring in Accounting and Finance and was recognize by Chi Alpha Sigma for academics. He is also the men's tennis representative for Student-Athletes Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is the team captain. This year he earned the team academic and athletic MVP awards and speaks three languages.
He was just as successful on the court, going 20-7 in singles play, playing primarily at the top flight where he went 13-5. When he was playing No. 1 singles, he played the second flight, going 3-1 there. In doubles play he went 19-8, including 18-8 when playing with partner Luis Delgado. That tandem went 9-1 in Conference Carolinas play, and 16-7 at the top flight for the Tornado. Had a streak where he won 16 of 17 matches, including nine straight.
Poswiat is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, and the at-large team will be announced on June 8.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large program is eligible for the following sports, women's beach volleyball, women's bowling, women's crew/rowing, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and men's wrestling.
