King advances in Conference Carolinas Tournament for first time
SUMTER, S.C. – For the first time in school history, the King University men's tennis team was victorious in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The second seeded Tornado defeated seventh seed Erskine College 5-0, stretching their winning streak to 10-matches.
The Tornado (14-7) set the tone with three tight doubles matches. Rodrigo Avila and Leo Brigato took a Jason Harris and Wilson Mathewes 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, and Pablo Vidal and Luis Delgado topped Andre Andre and Robert Clare 8-6 at the second flight. At No. 3 doubles, Seth Carelli and Moritz Poswiat defeated Jack West and Alan Pearce 9-8 (7-4), giving King a commanding 3-0 advantage.
Seniors Vidal and Avila sealed the Tornado victory over the Flying Fleet (4-16) with wins at No. 1 and 2 singles. At the first flight Vidal took a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jack west while Avila topped Jason Harris 6-0, 6-4 at the second flight.
With the win, King extends their winning streak to 10 matches and the Tornado advances to tomorrow's semifinals matches for the first time. King will take on sixth seed Barton College at 12:00 p.m.
