BRISTOL, Tenn. – After posting an undefeated week, King University's Pablo Vidal was named Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Player of the Week. He led the Tornado to a pair of wins, extending their winning streak to nine matches going into the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
Vidal was perfect in both singles and doubles play this week for the Tornado as King ran its winning streak to nine matches, its longest streak since winning 11 straight times from May 2011 to March 2012. He had a pair of straight set victories at his No. 1 singles position and took two wins with doubles partner Luis Delgado at the second flight.
The senior started the week with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 win over Carson-Newman University's Joao Pedro Oliveria and followed it with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Camilo Sandoval of Southern Wesleyan University. In doubles play, Vidal and Delgado topped Carson-Newman's Oliveria and Austin Mackay 8-5 before taking an 8-0 victory over Alex Ballenger and Jacob Chesney over Southern Wesleyan.
Vidal and the Tornado will put their nine-match winning streak on the line this weekend when they are second seed at the Conference Carolinas Tournament in Sumter, S.C. King opens play on Friday against seventh seed Erskine College at 12:00 p.m.
