NEWBERRY, S.C. –The King University men's tennis team continued their recent assault on opponents as they stretched their winning streak to seven matches on Sunday. The Tornado won their third dual in as many days, topping homestanding Newberry College 6-3.
King (11-7) wasted no time getting on the board as Rodrigo Avila and Leo Brigato defeated Vinicius Botelho and David Sons 8-4. The Tornado took a 2-1 lead into singles play after the No. 3 doubles team of Seth Carelli and Moritz Poswiat topped Mohammed Chakir and Jeffery Kiser 8-5.
The Wolves (9-11) tried to get back in the match as they took the No. 1 singles match to even the dual at two apiece. However, Avila brought momentum back to the King side with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Frenando Espana at No. 2 singles. Luis Delgado followed suit, defeating Carlos Nicolopulos 6-4, 6-2 at the third flight. Brigato clinched the win for King, and No. 4 singles, topping Chakir 6-0, 6-0 and Poswiat capped the 6-3 win with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Sons at No. 5 singles.
King will be in action again on Wednesday when they travel to take on Carson-Newman University at 2:00 p.m.
